Free SSL? What does this mean?

SSL is a secure login protocol to protect the security of your server. This is automatically included in each VPS v2 plan, which means the often one-time fee for SSL does not apply. The ability to use our shared certificate is also included. ONLY ONE SHARED CERTIFICATE CNAME (something.securesites.net) IS AVAILABLE PER VPS v2 ACCOUNT.

What Spam Control does Linkmatics Offer?

Spam is becoming an increasing problem for email users world-wide. However, where spam is email we don't want, one persons 'Spam' is another persons 'Ham' (...where Spam is mail you don't want and Ham is mail you do want). We therefore require a fairly complex method of ascertaining what IS spam and IS Ham.

SpamAssassin is a leading tool to help eliminate unwanted Spam. SpamAssassin is available to Linkmatics clients individually or installable on your VPS v2. The Makers of SpamAssassin explain how their product works:

SpamAssassin Uses its rule base and a wide range of heuristic tests on mail headers and body text to identify 'spam', also known as unsolicited commercial email (UCE). For technical documentation and a more detailed understanding visit. spamassassin.taint.org

The flexibility of SpamAssassin combines with its excellent design to make it an easy way to help you take control of your E-mail accounts and stop spam from wasting your time and resources.

SpamAssassin applies a number of tests to an incoming message, and each test returns a score. If enough tests return a combined score that is high enough (the default is 5), SpamAssassin can tag the message as being spam. Once a message has been tagged, there are a number of possible actions that can be taken with the message. Both tagging and actions can be handled either as a system-wide or as a user specific filter.

Although this sounds rather complex the results are stunning. As a leading tool in the market users often comment how they have reduced their spam (in some cases from hundreds a day) to virtually nothing.

Note:

Log files will not be counted against the user's disk space quota. We will continue to keep log files for a period of three months. Please note that Urchin reports are cumulative, so there is no real need to retain old log files beyond three months (unless required for audit purposes; in such a case, the files can be downloaded on the local computer).

Do you offer a Web Control Panel and what is 'MyManager' ?

Linkmatics provides MyManager and/or Webmin, both Web-based Administration control panels. These allow you to manage many of the common tasks involved in regular server administration and email management. In addition to basic user and sub-host configuration tools, it includes an IMAP (i.e. web) style E-mail manager and an easy to use file manager to users with ftp access. Both of these control panels are industry tried and tested and will provide everything you need to manage your own account.

Some of the simpler abilities include:

• File Manager

  The File Manager gives you the ability to easily upload files from your personal computer to your Virtual Private Server. Once uploaded, you can edit those files, change the permissions, and much more.

• Mail Manager

  Never has e-mail been so easy! The web-based e-mail client featured in the Mail Manager allows you to send and receive e-mail messages from any computer with an Internet connection and a browser.

• Tools and Wizards

  These wizards walk you through the step-by-step process of managing e-mail and FTP user accounts, creating e-mail aliases and autoreplies, and protecting yourself from spam (unsolicited commercial e-mail).

• Preferences

  Certain aspects of the File Manager, Mail Manager, and the administrative Tools and Wizards can be customised to your own liking.
